Solar Entertainment Corporation in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross Boracay Malay Chapter teamed up for a one-of-a-kind event in one of the Philippines’ most pristine beaches. The Solarfest Boracay Beach Fun Run was a whole-day event held last August 12, 2023.
The entire day was packed with activities from 8am to 11pm. The day started with a beach clean-up drive in partnership with the Malay Tourism Board, PRC volunteers, Paradise Cable volunteers to help keep the beach free of trash and debris, and also keep the runners safe from any injury during the afternoon run. The sponsors’ booths then opened at Nigi Nigi Too where beach goers were offered free massages, hair braiding, and sampling of products from sponsors. It was a festive atmosphere throughout the day with event flags scattered in the area, a stage at the beach, and drum beaters creating an inviting mood for everyone.
The race area opened up for registration at 3pm, attracting an estimated 1,200 male and female runners with ages ranging from 5 to up to 62 years old. The runners signed up for the 3K, 5k and 7k categories.
An energizing Zumba session created a wave of excitement for the participants just before the race. This also served as their pre-run stretching to prevent injury. Special guests, Chairman Delnora H. Nano of Philippine Red Cross Malay Chapter, and Mayor Frolibar Butista graced the stage for their welcoming remarks. Then at 5pm, participants from all categories gathered at the race arc to prepare for gun start.
Solo runners, families, and friends got to run on the beautiful shore with the magnificent view of the sunset. Pit stops and hydration areas were set up to make sure that the participants were kept hydrated throughout the run. When the runners arrived at the finish line, they were greeted by volunteers from the Philippine Red Cross who were handing out finisher medals as a reward.
The evening activities started with live acknowledgments from the event host Andre Co and a message from the Philippine Red Cross, Malay Chapeter Chairman. The night was filled with music from a homegrown band, games and special prizes from the sponsors. Special awards were given and the winners from the 3k, 5k and 7k categories were recognized. The whole event even became more meaningful when donations to the Philippine Red Cross Malay Chapter were given by Pocari and Solar Entertainment. The whole event was capped off with a night of music and partying with a perfomance from a live DJ.
