SINAG MAYNILA 2024 KICK-OFF EVENT

Sinag Maynila Foundation Inc. and the City Government of Manila solidified its partnership in a momentous signing event last July 8, 2024 to kick-off the Sinag Maynila 2024 festivities. This event is in line with the City of Manila’s Department of Tourism Culture & Arts Office for their Tourism Month celebration in September. 

Respected guests, employees of the Manila City Hall, as well as friends from the media graced the Gat. Antonio J. Villegas Hall (Bulwagang Katipunan) to witness this extraordinary moment. 

Honorable Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan, Vice Mayor Yul Nieto, Director Brilliante Mendoza, and Solar Entertainment Corp. President and CEO Wilson Y. Tieng, each gave their words of appreciation and expressed their dedication to this project. 

This partnership proves that the artistry and creativity that comes with producing high quality films is recognized by the government. This also shows that government officials can work hand-in-hand with film directors and producers to support and uplift the film industry in the Philippines. 

SINAG MAYNILA- “Sine Lokal, Pang Internasyonal”

The Sinag Maynila Independent Film Festival has been a staple in the media and film industry since its establishment in 2015, and has been an avenue for students, filmmakers, and film enthusiasts. 

The Sinag Maynila Independent Film Festival was founded by internationally renowned independent film director Brillante Mendoza alongside film producer and Solar Entertainment Corporation President Wilson Tieng. 

Sinag Maynila holds the tagline “Sine Lokal, Pang-International,” upholding its vision to show independent films of international caliber, as well as to give a voice and a creative space to independent filmmakers. 

6th SINAG MAYNILA INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL 2024

This year’s edition of Sinag Maynila is in partnership with the City of Manila’s Department of Tourism Culture & Arts Office, the film festival will be held in September 2024 in select cinemas, culminating with the GABI NG PARANGAL to be held at The Metropolitan Theatre.

With the theme “SINE LOKAL, PANG INTERNASYONAL”, the 6th Sinag Maynila Independent Film Festival will showcase Filipino stories made by Filipinos for the worldwide audience in the following categories:

  • Full Length (70-120 mins)
  • Short Films (5-15 mins)
  • Documentaries (15-30 mins)

Solarfest Baguio Panagbenga 2024

Solar Entertainment Corporation traveled all the way up North last February 27 to March 3 for the spectacular Solarfest Baguio Panagbenga 2024. Held at the Melvin Jones Grandstand, this event became a captivating display of culture, music, and entertainment. 

The Panagbenga Festival is an annual celebration that commemorates the rich heritage, traditions, and values of Baguio and the Cordilleras. The term “Panagbenga” comes from the Kankanaey term meaning “the season of blooming”. 

The Solarfest Baguio Panagbenga 2023 kicked-off with an array of sponsors’ booths, welcoming locals and tourists through each of their activities. Everyone had a great time going around, playing games and winning special prizes. 

The stage came alive during the main event on March 2. Guests flocked to the Melvin Jones Grandstand along with their friends and family for an evening of entertainment. Attendees got to see spontaneous bursts of energy in the form of flash mobs brought to them by sponsors. They also got to do dance challenges on stage. 

One of the highlights of the night was an electrifying performance by Michelle Dysangco, a licensed professional teacher, dance artist, choreographer, and entrepreneur. She is also known for advocating dance as a tool to provide a safe place for the youth. Hailing from the Cordillera Region, Michelle showcased her talent, leaving the audience in awe of the talent she has brought to the stage. 

The evening was capped off with live performances by bands from the north. The attendees were serenaded by The Edralins, Purple Hail, and Silent Disco.

The night ended on a high note, leaving guests with smiles on their faces and memories, proving that the Solarfest Baguio Panagbenga 2024  was a great success.

Solarfest Bacolod Masskara 2023

Solar Entertainment Corporation flew to Bacolod and went all out at the recently concluded Solarfest Bacolod Masskara 2023. Bacolodnons were all smiles as they flocked to Lacson Street to dance and celebrate.

A team of sponsors also set up their booths for that extra excitement for eventgoers. Sunsilk had a Tiktok booth where duos and groups can perform Sunsilk’s Tiktok dance and get a chance to win special prizes. Sunsilk also gave away free samples of their products for everyone to try. Creamsilk also gave away freebies to make sure that everyone in the venue had smooth, silky hair. FDI Distributor’s Inc. brought in some of their brands too, to join in the fun. A handful of people got to try products from Maling, Ovomaltine, Australia’s Own, and Lotte.

The event was also graced by influencers such as Kalinti by Tibon and Menang Reianne, who went around Lacson Street to have fun interactions with attendees.

As the venue got packed, the stage was set for a night of awesome entertainment! The Solar team, along with partner sponsors prepared games and special prizes. Brave volunteers even went on stage to show off their dance moves. Solar’s very own host, Andre Co, was witness to the fun and excitement on stage.

The night was capped off with live music by Bacolod’s homegrown performers! Event goers were serenaded by Project Juan, Cali Island, and Up Stream. Bacolodnons surely had a blast at the Solarfest Bacolod Masskara 2023!

A Milestone to Remember

A Milestone to Remember: Wilson Tieng’s 70th Birthday Celebration

On the 5th of September, the Manila Peninsula Hotel was lit not just by the venue’s lights but also by the celebration of a remarkable milestone in the life of Solar Entertainment Corporation’s beloved President and CEO, Wilson Tieng. Surrounded by family and friends, Wilson Tieng marked his 70th birthday in a celebration that highlighted his enduring passion for the world of cinema and television, as well as his profound love for those who have been by his side throughout his extensive career. Notable guests include Philippine politicians Hon. Franklin Drilon and Hon. Lani Mercado, Governor Dodo Mandanas, Hon. Roana Conti, Vice-Mayor of Manila, Yul Servo, Mayor Dino Chua as well FDCP President Tirso Cruz III, and award-winning Director Brilliante Mendoza.

The grand celebration was a testament to the CEO’s unwavering commitment to the Philippine entertainment industry, which he helped shape through the years. As the visionary leader behind Solar Entertainment Corporation, he has not only contributed significantly to the Philippine movie and television industry but has also played a significant role in the careers of talented directors and actors whom he has given support to.

The evening started with the arrival of guests who mingled and had their pictures taken with the birthday celebrant. Friends and family proceeded to their seats to get ready for a night to remember. It was evident that Wilson Tieng is very much cherished. His sincere thank you speech touched each and everyone in the room. 

Guests enjoyed a sumptuous dinner, accompanied by live performances from renowned artists such as singers Lyra Micolob, Julia Serad and Faith Cuneta ; Marcy David and band; dancers Jen and Jang feat. Tango Guapos Groupsinger ; and lastly, singer and songwriter Rey Valera who serenaded everyone with his classics. His grand children also prepared surprise performances as a gift to him. 

One couldn’t help but be moved by the heartfelt speeches delivered by his brothers Willy Tieng and William Tieng, as well as his nephews Cong. Irwin Tieng and Mark Tieng. They each shared anecdotes that made everyone laugh, smile, and relive moments with the birthday celebrant. His family, who has witnessed the CEO’s tireless work ethic and passion firsthand, expressed their gratitude for his ability to maintain a close connection to them despite his commitment to work. His nephews Irwin and Mark, particularly spoke about fond memories growing up with their uncle who not only taught them at an early age about business, but also showed them love and care as their Uncle.  The celebration concluded with guests hopping onto the floor to dance the night away.  

Wilson Tieng’s 70th birthday celebration was a testament to a life well-lived, and a reminder that true success is measured not just in professional achievements but in the relationships we hold on to through the years.

Solarfest Boracay

Solar Entertainment Corporation in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross Boracay Malay Chapter teamed up for a one-of-a-kind event in one of the Philippines’ most pristine beaches.  The Solarfest Boracay Beach Fun Run was a whole-day event held last August 12, 2023. 

The entire day was packed with activities from 8am to 11pm. The day started with a beach clean-up drive in partnership with the Malay Tourism Board, PRC volunteers, Paradise Cable volunteers to help keep the beach free of trash and debris, and also keep the runners safe from any injury during the afternoon run. The sponsors’ booths then opened at Nigi Nigi Too where beach goers were offered free massages, hair braiding, and sampling of products from sponsors. It was a festive atmosphere throughout the day with event flags scattered in the area, a stage at the beach, and drum beaters creating an inviting mood for everyone.

The race area opened up for registration at 3pm, attracting an estimated 1,200 male and female runners with ages ranging from 5 to up to 62 years old. The runners signed up for the 3K, 5k and 7k categories.

An energizing Zumba session created a wave of excitement for the participants just before the race. This also served as their pre-run stretching to prevent injury. Special guests, Chairman Delnora H. Nano of Philippine Red Cross Malay Chapter, and Mayor Frolibar Butista graced the stage for their welcoming remarks. Then at 5pm, participants from all categories gathered at the race arc to prepare for gun start. 

Solo runners, families, and friends got to run on the beautiful shore with the magnificent view of the sunset. Pit stops and hydration areas were set up to make sure that the participants were kept hydrated throughout the run. When the runners arrived at the finish line, they were greeted by volunteers from the Philippine Red Cross who were handing out finisher medals as a reward.

The evening activities started with live acknowledgments from the event host Andre Co and a message from the Philippine Red Cross, Malay Chapeter Chairman. The night was filled with music from a homegrown band, games and special prizes from the sponsors. Special awards were given and the winners from the 3k, 5k and 7k categories were recognized. The whole event even became more meaningful when donations to the Philippine Red Cross Malay Chapter were given by Pocari and Solar Entertainment. The whole event was capped off with a night of music and partying with a perfomance from a live DJ.
